"For all the grim savagery of his subject matter—mental institutions, alcoholism, total financial ruin, and, omnipresently, death—Embree maintains a dry-as-August-sage sense of humor that is bone
chilling and exhilarating. Survival constantly lurks in his poems, and is his greatest gift to the reader." — Western American Literature

"Embree possesses the toughest, most painfully authentic voice currently writing poetry in the Northern Rockies . . ." — Small Press Review

Poet Bruce Embree was one of the most original poetic voices in the Pacific Northwest before his untimely death by suicide in 1996. Bruce stunned audiences at his readings (mostly in Pocatello, Idaho) with poems wrought with sad and often humorously raw honesty about life of the economically disadvantaged daily life of a misdiagnosed survivor of mental institutions and deadend jobs. Beneath the Chickenshit Mormon Sun is the second of Bruce’s chapbooks published by Limberlost Press. The first, No Wild Dog Howled (1986), is out of print.
