Poems by a rebellious artist, writer, and teacher reflecting on the joys and failings of his personal life and offering blistering jabs at right-wing America.
Ray Obermayr’s poetry captures the experiences of his life, from his childhood in Great Depression-era Milwaukee, through WW II, and to the present state of the world.
Obermayr’s early paintings were featured in Time Magazine and Art News, in articles featuring young American artists. He earned an advanced degree in art from the University of Wisconsin in 1949, and moved to Pocatello, Idaho with his wife Lorna and two young sons to teach at Idaho State College in 1955. He left Idaho State in 1968 and taught at the University of Nevada Las Vegas and Shelby State Community College in Memphis, Tennessee. He retired from teaching in 1979 and returned to Pocatello.
Ray Obermayr passed away April 22, 2014.
